Nestled deep within a plunging, overgrown gorge where the ancient forest swallows the sunlight, the village of Camkil stands as a testament to mortal endurance against both abyssal tides and the crushing weight of the wilds. Camkil is built directly into the towering, moss-draped walls of the ravine and the massive, bridging roots of the colossal ancient trees that form a secondary canopy above. The settlement is an ascending network of hide-tents, timber-framed structures, and dizzying vine-and-rope bridges suspended above a rushing, treacherous river. The village is perpetually veiled in the fragrant smoke of burning sage and damp ironwood, an ancient warding technique that blends with the forest mist to mask the scent of mortal souls from the roaming fiends of the Demesne.
The warriors of Camkil are renowned for their vertical mobility and aerial ambushes, dropping silently from the dense foliage above. They paint their skin and scale-mail with crushed green moss and charcoal—a symbol of the forest that reclaims the dead, and the ghosts they intend to make of any devil that dares encroach upon their gorge. The tribal chief, a grizzled tactician named Chatan Deep-Root, earned his mantle not by subduing a dragon, but by baiting a corrupted canopy drake into the gorge's narrows and collapsing a massive, deadwood behemoth upon it. Today, the village militia operates in seamless tandem with Marshal Caspian Silversky, acting as the high-altitude scouts and vanguard sentinels for the county's western, heavily forested flank.
