The Kingdom of Vyle-R’lyeh is a highly structured, honorable civilization of Tieflings originating from the realm of Thalasia in the Astral Sea. Contrary to fiendish stereotypes, the people of Vyle-R’lyeh are an orderly, honorable people of light who value defense and duty over conquest. The civilization was established when the First White (the grandfather of Cashiem the White) laid down their foundational laws and led his people out of the hells to establish a permanent sanctuary in Thalasia.
The social and political hierarchy of Vyle-R’lyeh is derived from the refraction of light in Thalasia’s sky, which casts a perpetual rainbow across the realm[3]. Society is organized into distinct functional duties, each designated by a specific color:
White: The supreme leadership caste encompassing all duties, colors, and responsibilities of society. The White serves as the sovereign ruler of the entire kingdom (e.g., Carmeros the White, Cashiem the White).
Grey: The title held by the primary wife and sovereign consort of The White. Designated as "the Grey" (or the whitest of the Grey), she leads the Grey caste and is charged with guiding and raising the young White who will eventually succeed the throne.
Red: The military and warrior caste, responsible for combat, defense, and guarding the realm.
Carnation: The highest military rank, representing the supreme commander of all Red warriors (e.g., Sirros the Carnation).
Blue: The medical and lifegiving caste, composed of healers and caretakers dedicated to preserving life.
Green: The agricultural and pastoral caste, responsible for growing crops, cultivating forests, and handling beasts.
Yellow: The artisan, engineering, and creative caste, comprising architects, builders, shipwrights, artists, and musicians.
Gold: A rare, exalted designation awarded to individuals who demonstrate a synthesis of master-level capabilities across multiple colors (combining Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow virtues).
Black / Darkening: An informal social designation given to mothers who bear children for The White but are not designated as The Grey (often combined with their functional color, such as Midnight Green or Dark Green).
Glass-and-Steel Vessels: Vyle-R’lyeh is renowned for constructing planar vessels forged from glass and steel rather than wood, built using materials harvested from Thalasia's ancient forests.
The Planar Helm: Their signature ships (such as the Paryavekshak) rely on specialized, highly complex magical artifacts called "helms" for planar navigation.
Corrosion Resistance: For maritime and trade logistics, they utilize one-pound metal bars dipped in silver to protect raw iron and commodities from saltwater corrosion.
Courtship & Union Rituals:
Courtship follows formal protocol, including a traditional three-night wooing period upon a formal declaration of interest.
Marriage to The White involves a public union ritual before the court to officially confirm the consort's submission and elevation as The Grey.
During the public marriage ceremony, future leadership may be officially challenged; if a challenger defeats The White, the challenger ascends as the new White.
Multi-Tiered Funeral Pyres & Divine Escort:
Deceased citizens are honored through elaborate, multi-tiered funeral pyres structured strictly by caste rank.
The top level is reserved exclusively for The White; the second level holds royal children, family, and The Grey; while the lower levels accommodate all other color castes.
During these ceremonies, the goddess Suel personally manifests at the pyre to collect the departing souls and escort them to judgment, transforming the event into a celebration of the deceased's life before formal mourning begins.
