Location: A sprawling coastal village situated along the southern coast of Taneen, defined by a sun-drenched crescent of white sand.
Shallows & Barrier Reef: The bay's waters are extremely shallow, remaining 3 feet deep for a quarter-mile out, deepening to 8 feet for another quarter-mile, before extending to the jagged 3-mile barrier reef.
The Grotto Lagoon: Located along the eastern beach, a crystal-clear 88-degree tidal lagoon set within a partially covered rock grotto, inhabited by swarms of skin-cleansing fish.
Northern Hot Springs: Situated just north of the village, a natural riverbed featuring hundreds of warm, water-filled pocks utilized as thermal baths.
The Limestone Overhang: The western edge of the bay is dominated by a colossal limestone cliff overhang and deep cavern framing a cascading freshwater waterfall.
Low-Draft Vessel Construction: Sheltered beneath the limestone cavern from tropical storms, shipwrights build shallow-hulled proas and dual-hulled outriggers using lashed hardwood, tree resins, and beeswax.
Reef Navigation: Craft feature triangular sails woven from sturdy reeds, engineered to skate over the shallows and clear the barrier reef during high and grand tides.
Shanty Infrastructure: Living quarters are constructed from salvaged driftwood, woven palm thatch, and the grounded hulls of vessels like the Hope's Bounty.
Leadership: Formerly led by the navigator Hiasa Heavengleam until her death against the dragon Melosudan; her son, Zem Heavengleam, was subsequently elected mayor.
Southern Evacuation Hub: Serves as the primary southern departure point for castaways evacuating Taneen on outrigger fleets.
Protected Coastal Haven: Hope's Bay functions as a thriving maritime community supported by abundant timber, coastal fishing, and thermal spring networks.
Foothill Proximity: Situated in the coastal volcanic foothills of Mont Terreur, near the subterranean magma tube lairs previously occupied by Melosudan and Inthrith.
