Broken-Shield is built around the grounded, hollowed-out hull of the Seeker, the Spelljammer ship once commanded by Balthier Fireswell. The ship rests in a shallow crater, its arcane engines long since removed or scavenged. The village is meticulously organized, with the "deck" of the ship serving as the town square and its lower holds acting as reinforced bunkers against the Gap's storms.

Founded in Y77 following the most crushing moment of the War. Balthier Fireswell and his naval crew arrived at this coordinate to extract Commander Narcis First’s battalion. They waited for days, but not a single soldier emerged from the southern mists. This failure—the sight of an entire battalion vanishing due to the Marshall's poor deployment—broke the crew's will. Knowing they were tracked by Command and could not steal the ship, they simply abandoned it, scuttling the arcane cores so it could never fly again. The village was founded by the crew and the few support staff who chose to stay on the Prime Plane rather than return to the corrupt leadership in the Astral Sea.
