Located on the edge of the Western Expanse, Silkmire is a village defined by its proximity to the subterranean "leaks" of Dalmasca. The ground here is unstable, pockmarked by sinkholes that occasionally vent the warm, stale air of the buried city below.
Silkmire consists of low-slung, sturdy stone buildings reinforced with iron "Anchor-Chains" to prevent them from sliding into the frequent sinkholes. The village is the primary source of raw Phase-Silk for the Anthem Guild in Astra. The villagers live in a state of constant "Phase-Watch," using sensitive silver bells that chime when the ethereal veil is breached.

Silkmire was a standard farming hamlet until Year 134, when a massive "Phase-Blight" from Dalmasca killed the livestock but brought an influx of Phase Spiders. Realizing they could not farm the land, the survivors learned to harvest the spiders instead, turning a disaster into a lucrative—though deadly—industry.
