Lement's Chain of Lakes

The Natural Canals

This series of lakes fucntion as a natural canals, all one need to do is wait for the tide and you can rise from one level to another. Many ships' survivors make their homes along the chain of lakes, as nearly any group that travels must eventually pass through this area, it is the only way to go from the east or west side of the island to the other.

Overview & Tidal Mechanics

Natural Tidal Canal: A massive system of interlocking, brackish lakes situated at varying elevations across the interior of Taneen. It serves as the primary natural canal system connecting the northern, southern, eastern, and western regions of the island.
Moons-Driven Tides: The rising and falling water levels are controlled by Taneen's two moons: the green moon, Haritākāśa (which crosses the sky every 18 hours), and the gray moon, Gre Chandrama (which crosses every 25.5 hours).
Elevation Transitions: Travelers navigate the chain using rafts or low-draft vessels, waiting at mooring points for the swelling tides to raise water levels and elevate their craft between the rocky tiers and river interchanges.
Origin of Name: According to island lore, the waterway was mapped out by the marooned crew of the Lement, who documented its secrets and shared them with other castaways.

Key Landmarks & Interchanges

Junction 8: A business and trade point set within the bamboo along a tributary, run by castaway merchants who deal in salvaged and cobbled adventuring gear.
Minotaur's Horn Mooring: A high-tide mooring point marked by a minotaur-like shape carved directly into a steep cliff face. At low tide, the carved mooring sits 12 feet above the water, dropping to 2 feet at high tide.
The Wyvern's Asshole: A prominent navigational landmark formed by the skeletal remains of a massive wyvern lodged in the water, its broken tail and rear legs thrusting above the waterline.
Oar & Thole Rivers: Fast-moving river channels connecting lake tiers. Oar River features dangerous 50-foot waterfall drops along its edges during heavy storms and flood tides.
Acorn Lake & Rattlesnake's Rattle: Mid-elevation lakes bordered by distinctive rock walls and a large coiled tree landmark known as Rattlesnake's Rattle.

Hazards & Brigandage

Geographical Obstacles: The lakes are flanked by sheer rock canyon walls, violent 50-foot river drops, and impenetrable bamboo forests that require physically cutting paths to traverse on foot.
Extreme Brigandage: Because all overland group travel across Taneen must eventually pass through the chain, lawless castaways set up ambush camps along the banks, resulting in exceptionally high rates of piracy and toll-harvesting.
Aerial Predators: Blue Dragons and wyverns frequently hunt above the open waters, forcing small craft to hug the cliff edges or travel during heavy rainstorms for visual cover.

Ecosystem, Wildlife & Resources

Brackish Aquatic Life: The water throughout the chain is brackish due to seawater flooding inland with the tides and mixing with mountain runoff, supporting healthy populations of salmon and brackish-water fish.
Flora: Dense, fast-growing native bamboo forests choke the banks alongside stands of oak, pine, and wild fruit trees bearing coconuts and pineapples.
Recreated Ecosystem Balance: The lakes maintain an active, self-sustaining food chain of fish, waterfowl, and riverbank game to support passing caravans and fishing communities.
