Name: Celo
Pantheon: The Core Pantheon
Titles & Aliases: Goddess of Gentle Rains, The Sky-Mother, The Quiet Bloom, The Bringer of Breezes
Gender / Form: Female (She/Her).
Form: Celo appears as a kind, maternal woman, often in the form of a human or elf, with hair that seems to be made of soft, white clouds and eyes the color of a clear blue sky. She is often seen barefoot, walking on the wind.
Alignment: Lawful Good
Status: Major God (Reports to El, High God of Life)
Divine Realm: Aer Borealis (The Azure Canopy)
Primary Domains: Nature and Weather (The Beneficial aspects)
Portfolio: Gentle rains, cooling breezes, warm sunlight, spring, rainbows, farmers, sailors, and all who depend on good weather.
Cleric Domains (5e): Nature, Survival, Tempest
(Clerical Note: Her "Tempest" domain is only the "good" side—the "wind in the sails," the "rain that breaks the drought"—not the "destructive" storm.)
Holy Symbol: The rising sun behind a cloud, over a great oak tree.
Favored Weapon: Quarterstaff (a "walking stick") or Sickle (for the "harvest" that her rains bring).
Favored Colors: Sky-blue, spring-green, and white.
Sacred Animals / Plants: The dove (peace) and the robin (spring), and the oak tree (life).
Core Dogma (The Philosophy): "Nature is a gift, a blessing. The sun rises to warm you, the rains fall to feed you, the wind blows to guide you. Treat this gift with respect. Be gentle, be kind, be steadfast. Protect the "good" in nature, for it is the "good" in life."
Tenets for Followers (The "Thou Shalt"s):
"Be a gentle force, like the rain that nurtures the seed."
"Protect the "good" parts of nature (the farms, the groves, the gentle rivers)."
"Be patient. The sun will rise. The spring will come. Goodness is a "Lawful" cycle."
"Pray for the "balance," for the "love" of Reth, so that his "storm" does not overwhelm her "calm.""
Sins & Taboos (The "Thou Shalt Not"s):
"To "wantonly destroy" nature (the "Sin of Reth," in her eyes)."
"To "curse" the rain (it is a "gift," even if it is inconvenient)."
"To "hoard" food or water. Nature's "bounty" is meant to be "shared.""
Superiors: El (High God). El is the "High God of Life." Celo is her "Major God" who manages the "Life-Giving Weather." She is El's "gentle" hand, her "kindest" daughter.
Subordinates:
Amini (God of Seasons, Agriculture)
Lilino (God of Oceans, Wind, Trade)
Uriku (God of Rivers)
Counterparts:
Reth (Major God): Her "lover" and her "opposite." Reth (Lawful Evil) is the "Destructive" storm. Celo (Lawful Good) is the "Beneficial" calm. Their love affair is the "engine" of the world's weather.
Thasa (Major God): Her "co-worker" in El's department. Celo is "Weather/Farms" (the "tamed" nature). Thasa is "Animals/Balance" (the "wild" nature).
Mortals: She is one of the most beloved gods by the common folk, especially farmers, sailors, and anyone who steps outside.
Demigod Offspring:
Celia Nimbus (Tempest)
Name of the Church: The Gentle Hand, The Sky-Tenders.
Worshipper Base: Farmers, sailors, druids (of the gentle circles), and common folk.
Clergy Structure: A simple, kind, Lawful Good hierarchy.
Acolytes: Buds
Priests: Tenders or Rain-Callers
Bishops: Keepers of the Sun
Temple Description: Temples are always open-air groves, greenhouses, or chapels on sunny hilltops. They are"warm and welcoming.
Rites & Rituals:
"The Rain-Calling": A plea for gentle rain in a drought.
"The Sun-Blessing": A thanks for a good harvest or safe journey.
Holy Days:
"The First Rain": The first gentle rain of spring.
"The Harvest-Home": The final harvest of the fall.
The Lover's War (The Myth of Weather): The central myth of Celo and Reth. It tells that the weather is not a natural force, but the mood of the divine lovers. When Celo is dominant, the weather is calm. When Reth seduces her or angers her, he takes over, and the storms come. Hurricanes and blizzards are said to be the result of their passionate arguments.
The Oak and the Cloud: The myth of her symbol. It tells that the Oak (Life, El) prayed for water, and the Sun (Light) prayed for shade. Celo was born as the Cloud that answered both prayers.
