Name: Uriku
Pantheon: The Core Pantheon
Titles & Aliases: God of Rivers, The River-King, The Salmon-God, The Wily Flow
Gender / Form: Masculine. Uriku appears as a wiry, fast, and 'wily' man, often with a mischievous smile. He is never still, always flowing, and his "hair" often looks like a flowing river-current.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Status: God (Reports to Celo, Major God of Nature)
Divine Realm: The Aquis Sapiens (The Wise Water)
Primary Domains: Rivers, Freshwater,
Portfolio: All rivers, streams, and freshwater. He is the patron of river-traders, fresh-water fishermen, and those who "go with the flow."
Cleric Domains (5e): Nature & Tempest
Holy Symbol: Four parallel, wavy lines (representing a river), with a single salmon leaping up against the current.
Favored Weapon: Shortsword (for its quickness) or a Net.
Favored Colors: River-brown, grey-blue, and "salmon" pink.
Sacred Animals / Plants: The salmon (for its determination) and the trout.
Core Dogma (The Philosophy): "The river is life. It flows where it wills, it cuts stone, it brings food, and it carries you to new places. Be the river. Be chaotic, be fast, and never be still. Do not let the 'ocean' (the 'end') tell you your journey is over. The journey is the purpose. Go against the current, or go with it, but go."
Tenets for Followers (The "Thou Shalt"s):
"Go with the flow. Do not be held down by rigid plans."
"Be determined. Like the salmon, fight your way upstream to reach your goal."
"Embrace change. A river's course is never the same twice."
"The river provides. Trust that the 'current' of life will bring you what you need."
Sins & Taboos (The "Thou Shalt Not"s):
"To be 'stagnant' or 'still' for too long. This is the 'death' of the river."
"To dam a river or stop its flow (without his blessing)."
"To poison a river or stream."
"To give in to the 'tyranny' of the ocean. The river is free."
Superiors: Celo (Major God). Uriku is Celo's "unruly child." Celo is "gentle rain," and Uriku is the "Chaotic" result of that rain. He respects her as the "source," but he refuses to be "tamed" by her "Lawful" nature.
Subordinates: None (God tier).
Counterparts:
Lilino (God of Oceans): His arch-nemesis. Lilino is the "tyrant" who believes all water "reports" to him. Uriku is the "rebel" who believes the river is its own master. Their feud is legendary.
Mortals: Worshipped by all who live and work on rivers: ferrymen, river-traders, inland villages, and fishermen.
Demigod Offspring:
Ishtar Di (Tempest)
Fumio Krikerin (Nature)
Name of the Church: The River-Folk, The Order of the Salmon.
Worshipper Base: River-traders, ferrymen, fishermen, and "free-spirits."
Clergy Structure: A very loose, chaotic "flow" of priests. Priests are "Flow-Keepers" who wander from town to town, following the river.
Temple Description: Shrines are always on the banks of rivers, often a simple pile of smooth river-stones or a small, decorated ferry-dock.
Holy Days:
The Thaw: The first day of spring when the rivers break their ice, celebrated as "The Re-Flowing."
The Salmon-Run: The day the salmon begin to run upstream is a massive, holy festival of feasting.
The Stoning of the River: The "gospel" for Uriku's followers. It tells of the "dark time" when the "Tyrant-Ocean" (Lilino) petrified Uriku. His followers prayed for his return, and his demigod child, Ischell, shattered the "stone" with a blast of "Tempest" magic, freeing the river-god. This is why his followers hate Lilino and see "rivers vs. oceans" as the great, divine war.
