Name: Reter (Re-ter')
Pantheon: The Core Pantheon
Titles & Aliases: God of Trickery, Mischief, Pranksters, and Murder; The Lethal Jester, The Great Trickster
Gender / Form: Masculine. Reter's form is fluid, but he is always "parodying" something. He might appear as a "king" in a cardboard-crown, or as a "hero" with a "sword" that is a fish. He is always laughing.
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Status: God (Reports to Eisana, Major God of Wizardry)
Divine Realm: The Lusus (The Deadly Playground)
Primary Domains: Trickery, Mischief, Pranksters, Murder, Parody
Portfolio: Pranksters, "edgy" bards, assassins (who kill with "style"), and all who seek to "parody" or "tear down" the "normal."
Cleric Domains (5e): Arcana & Trickery
Holy Symbol: A bucket (for a "bucket-over-the-door" prank) surrounded by a circle of rope (a "noose").
Favored Weapon: Dagger (especially one that looks "silly," like a "trick" dagger that is actually very sharp)
Favored Colors: "Clownish" bright colors, like purple and yellow.
Sacred Animals / Plants: The hyena (for its "laugh") and the Owlin (as a "joke" on other gods).
Core Dogma (The Philosophy): "The world is a joke, and the 'rules' are the setup. The 'punchline' is when it all falls apart. 'Normal' is boring. 'Safe' is boring. A good prank makes you laugh. A great prank... makes you die of laughter. And the greatest joke of all? That's the one that kills the other guy. Ha!"
Tenets for Followers (The "Thou Shalt"s):
"Parody everything. See a "noble" king? Put a "kick me" sign on his back."
"A prank should always have a 'victim.' The bigger the victim, the better the joke."
"Lethal is funny. A "bucket of water" is a child's prank. A "bucket of acid"... that's divine."
"Be chaotic. Be unpredictable. Never let them know your next "joke.""
Sins & Taboos (The "Thou Shalt Not"s):
"To be "serious." This is the only "true" sin."
"To follow a "rule" that isn't your rule."
"To not laugh at the prank, even if you are the victim."
"To be "normal."
Superiors: Eisana (Major God). This is the worst work-relationship in the pantheon. Eisana, a former Arcane Trickster, is the only one who "gets" Reter's "jokes," which means she is the only one who can "manage" him. She hates him, but Arcus (a Neutral god) has tasked her with "managing" all "Arcana" and "Trickery," and that includes the "Chaotic Evil" parts.
Subordinates: None (God tier).
Mortals: Worshipped by only the most "edgy" and "murder-hobo" of followers: evil bards, chaotic-evil rogues, and psychotic pranksters.
Demigod Offspring:
Retinal (Trickery)
Name of the Church: The Last Laugh, The Jester's-Gag (literally).
Worshipper Base: Evil tricksters, "murder-clowns," and chaotic-evil bards.
Clergy Structure: None. The "high priest" is just the "prankster" who has "killed" the last high priest.
Temple Description: "Temples" are "fun-houses," but with real traps. Pits of spikes, acid-squirting flowers, and "doors" that are mimics.
Holy Days:
"The Day of the Jester": A "prank-day" (like "April Fool's"), but all the pranks are lethal.
The Owlin-Joke: The core myth. When Anushirvan "instructed" all gods to have demigods, Reter saw all the "boring" gods choosing "boring" humans and elves. As a "parody" and an act of "malicious compliance," he "pranked" them all by mating with an Owlin, just to "make a joke" out of the whole "divine" process.Â
