Name: Saery
Pantheon: The Core Pantheon (Splinter of Saeriuet)
Titles & Aliases: God of Justice, Judgement, and Afterlife; The Great Judge, The Balancer, The Final Sentence
Gender / Form: Male (He/Him).
Form: Saery appears as an imposing, impossibly perfect, and emotionally distant figure, often in the form of a human, elf, or aasimar. He is always dressed in judicial robes of stark black and white. His face is handsome but stern, and his eyes (often depicted as pure silver) seem to weigh and measure all they see.
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Status: Major God (Reports to Ezma, High God of Death)
Divine Realm: Aula Iustitia (The Hall of Weighing)
Primary Domains: Justice, Judgement, Afterlife
Portfolio: Judges, courts, the law, and the judgement of mortal souls in the afterlife. He is the "prosecutor" and "judge" of the dead.
Cleric Domains (5e): Death, Entropy, Grave
Holy Symbol: A hammer (gavel) and a shield (the law), often crossed.
Favored Weapon: Warhammer (the gavel) or Shield (the law).
Favored Colors: Black, white, and silver.
Sacred Animals / Plants: The owl (for its "judicious" gaze) and the "Gavel-Fungus" (a hard, gavel-shaped mushroom).
Core Dogma (The Philosophy): "The multiverse is a set of scales. Every action, every life, every soul, has a weight. My duty is to weigh them. The law is the fulcrum. Justice is the balance. I am the hand that holds the scales. Your sentence will be exactly what you have earned. Do not seek to cheat this, do not seek to escape it. Seek only to live a life that balances well."
Tenets for Followers (The "Thou Shalt"s):
"Uphold the law, for it is the mortal attempt to mirror divine judgment."
"Weigh your actions. Understand the "cause and effect" of your choices."
"Be impartial. Your feelings must not cloud your judgment."
"Accept your sentence, mortal or divine. It is the only path to balancing the scales."
Sins & Taboos (The "Thou Shalt Not"s):
"To pervert the law for personal gain (the "Sin of Imbalance")."
"To show partiality or favoritism. The scales must be blind."
"To kill oneself to escape mortal judgment. This is an abomination, as it does not "cheat" the scales, it only brings my judgment more swiftly, and with this new "sin" added to the weight."
"To fear death. It is not an "end," it is a "sentencing.""
Superiors: Ezma (High God). Ezma is his "boss," the "High God of the Underworld." Saery is the "Judge" who presides over the "courts" of the underworld. Saery passes the sentence, and Ezma (as the "Executioner" and "Karmic Balancer") carries it out. It is a perfect, lawful, and efficient system.
Subordinates:
Gruumsh (Orcs, Storms, War)
Mok (Destruction, Death, Vengeance)
Nis (Evil, Discord, Lies)
Sasi (Lust, Secrets, Thieves)
Suel (Death, Darkness, Endings)
Tiamat (Evil Dragons)
Divine Sibling (Splinter of Saeriuet): Sieyut (The Warlord). Saery received the mantle of Judgment and Law (the intent of the code), while Sieyut received the mantle of Honor and Battle (the execution of the code).
Counterparts:
Yim (Major God): His "co-worker" in Ezma's department. Saery is "Justice" (the "cold, hard" side of the law). Yim is "Peace" (the "communal, good" side of the law). Saery runs the "Courts of the Dead," Yim guides the "living" rulers.
Mortals: He is revered and feared by all. Mortals pray to him for "justice" in court, and pray not to meet him too soon in the afterlife.
Demigod Offspring:
Ischell Cia Di (Grave): His daughter with the mortal, Aeryn Di.
Name of the Church: The Justicars of the Scale, The Court of the Afterlife.
Worshipper Base: Judges, lawyers, city guards, and the common folk (out of fear and respect for the law).
Clergy Structure: A rigid, lawful "court" system.
Acolytes: "Clerks"
Priests: "Justicars" or "Judges"
Bishops: "High Judges"
Temple Description: Temples are always "courthouses," built of cold, imposing stone (black and white marble). They are severe, humorless, and perfectly balanced.
Rites & Rituals:
"The Weighing": A daily prayer where a follower "weighs" their actions of the day.
"The Sentencing": A ritual where a Justicar acts as a "judge" for a mortal dispute.
Holy Days:
"The Day of Balance": The Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, when day and night are "in balance."
The Shattering of Saeriuet: Saery was once part of the unified god Saeriuet (The Unbreakable Code), whose history stretches back to the BECMI era. The split occurred at the transition point to the 3rd Edition multiverse, giving Saery the role of perfect, impartial Judgment.
The Avatar's Heart (The Story of Aeryn Di): The only "myth" that shows Saery's "humanity," and it is a cautionary one. 25 years ago, he felt "profound respect" for a mortal woman, Aeryn Di, and sent an avatar to aid her. The avatar "fell in love," and they had a child (Ishtar Di). Before his "feelings" could "imbalance" him, he intentionally sent his avatar on a solo, suicidal quest where it "perished." He "judged" his own avatar for its "lapse." This is the ultimate parable of his faith: "Not even a god is above the law."
